Barely 47 days after circulation was halted on some stretches across the capital city, residents and business owners are already heaving sighs of relief. On January 04, 2024, Mayor Luc Messi Atangana launched the rehabilitation and redevelopment of the stretches: Carrefour Belibi – Terminus Mimboman (1.4KM), Carrefour Emombo 1et – Ecole Publique Kondengui (234M) and the Carrefour Emombo 2eme – Essomba stretch (375M). He would go on to do same at the Carrefour Cornier – Dovv Essos stretch and at Carrefour HYSACAM, Quartier Fouda.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a site visit tour, February 20, 2024, he confirmed that the works are well advanced, and will be delivered in record time. Primary challenges faced by workers included the non respect of construction norms by residents of the concerned localities, some of whom have constructed along waterways. Matching his earlier call for discipline with action, the City Mayor ensured the structures were brought down, and owners of structures encroaching the road given ten days to bring them down.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mayor and his entourage made a second stop at the Yaounde V district to take a toll of the advanced state of works on the Carrefour Cornier – Dovv Essos stretch being rehabilitated. Still in the Yaounde V district, the City Mayor and his entourage were received by beaming faces at the Carrefour HYSACAM neighborhood whose flood issues are now of the past. A culvert twice the size of the original has been built, and works liberating the waterway, on course.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe three major construction sites we have visited this morning were launched on January 4, 2024, about a month and a half ago. It was therefore necessary to go to the field to see if these sites after the launch were continued and see the level of advancements of works and their quality. With the rights of way cleared, the enterprise in charge is expected to deliver as required. At the Carrefour Cornier – Carrefour Dovv Essos stretch, the enterprise took into account the nature of the sil, and will use pavement bricks for a portion of the road.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City Mayor revealed that \u201cInstead of the stipulated six months, they noted that they can accomplish the task in four months.\u201d All three projects, it should be noted, are fully funded by the Yaounde CIty Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
