The Yaounde City Mayor, Messi Atangana Luc has taken his drive to maintain the town’s hygiene status a notch higher, reminding the different actors of their roles. The Mayor on Wednesday April 20th, 2022, presided over a session with administrative, traditional, municipal and sanitation officials from all seven municipalities.
The City Mayor used the opportunity to appreciate city dwellers for their conduct especially during the African Cup of Nation, and urged them to uphold best practices to keep the town clean. Traditional rulers, he added, should set the right example and work hand-in-glove with all other stakeholders to keep Yaoundé neat.
During the interactive phase of the session, attendees raised a number of challenges hindering the waste collection and disposal process in their communities. Recurrent among them, were disagreements with HYSACAM sanitation workers and failure of residents to dump waste at required dump sites.
Together with the General Manager of waste disposal company, HYSACAM, they proposed a series of measures to bring these practices to an end.
Mayor Messi Atangana Luc on his part reminded them of sanctions that await defaulters of laid down rules concerning littering. He proceeded to hand over seven tricycles to heads of associations of traditional rulers from all seven municipalities of Yaoundé.
