The second edition of the Yaounde City Council’s Festi Foot Y’ongola holiday sporting competition is underway. It was launched by the fourth deputy Mayor of the Yaounde City Council, Kwayeb Ghislaine, representative of the City Mayor, Messi Atangana Luc at the Yaounde military stadium on Saturday July 9, 2022. “The City Mayor is using this as an opportunity to sensitise the youths. Mfoundi is the showcase of our country and whatever happens there affects the country. This tournaments permits us to keep them occupied and prevent them from engaging in ills like drugs and having unwanted pregnancies…” Mayor Kwayeb Ghislaine explained. The same opinion was shared by Evina Avang Jean-Jacques, President of the sociocultural affairs and sports commission of the City Yaounde Council. “We are also taking a patrimonial dimension,” he revealed, adding “we honoured some of the greats who built Yaounde… we are going to dedicate ten trophies in the names of some of them.” In the inaugural game, the sporting team of the Yaounde III municipality was thrashed 4-2 by their counterparts of Yaounde. Festi Foot Y’ongola 2022 will run through August 27 with games taking place in all seven municipalities of Yaounde. Games in Yaounde I are being hosted at Camp SIC Nlongkak, Yaounde II at Cite Verte Creche Allemande, and Yaounde III at the military stadium. Yaounde IV games are played at Stade Malien de Nkolndongo Lycee Bilingue, Yaounde VI at the Acacias football pitch next to the council, and at the IRAD stadium in Nkolbisson for Yaounde VII.
