Mayor Luc Messi Atangana has doled out a financial package of CFA 5 million to victims of the Mbankolo landslide of October 08, 2023. In addition to this financial support, the City Mayor in his October 20, 2023 visit to the victims took out time to hear them and comfort them. He was accompanied to the victims’ resettlement site by the Yaounde II Divisional officer.
« When the Mbankolo disaster occurred, I was not in the town. Nevertheless, I was informed and I asked my deputy, Mayor Palalou Midjinyaoua, to join the government delegation that came to the site. Now that I am in Yaoundé, it is my duty, as Mayor of the City of Yaoundé, to come and express to the survivors of the Mbankolo disaster, to the victims, some of whom are here and others in hospital, to their families, to their relatives, the sympathy of the City Council and our solidarity in the ordeal they are facing,” the City Mayor explained. He added: “Knowing that there are many costs to be met, such as hospital care and nutrition for those in temporary accommodation, and even the management of funerals for those who have unfortunately been called to God, we thought we should provide financial support, and tell them in person that we are in solidarity with them through the administrative authority, which is also managing this crisis.
